Eric Clemmons gives a great example of ‘Netflix’ as a business model that has changed the way one industry does business.

According to Eric, Netflix sends out 1.9 million DVD’s per day. In the past, if you wanted to rent a movie, you would get in your car, go down to the nearest Blockbuster, pick the movie, stand in line, etc. Then you would have to drop it off after watching it.

This all takes about 1 hour or more. Today, through ‘Netflix’, you can do all the same things for 1/2 the price right from your computer! Sound familiar? Netflix profits are about 100 million per year. Blockbuster Video is not doing anything wrong . . . they are just doing it the way they have always done it and Netflix found a better way!

We offer the exact same business model . . . instead of getting in the car, going to the store, picking out a card, standing in line, etc, in seconds we can pick a card right from our website and have it sent in a click! And . . . we do it for about 1/5 the price!

Today we do about 50,000 cards per day. Can you imagine a day when we are doing 1.9 million cards per day or more?

In fact, I was thinking that on Thanksgiving Day, Hallmark and American Greetings probably had pretty close to zero cards purchased. We, on the other hand saw about 30,000 cards purchased on Thanksgiving Day! Can you see the power in this? We are changing the world one card at a time!

Happy Thanksgiving

Have a great day today! Hopefully you will get to spend it with people that you love, and who love you.

This is the first Thanksgiving I have spent with my parents and brother for about 5 years I guess, so it’s a special one to me. We are spending the day in a condo that if I go out on the deck, I can see the Mobile Bay to my right, Golf Magazine top 25 rated Kiva Dunes golf course under me, and to my left I can see the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. It is my favorite place to be in the Gulf Shores area.

Of course, moms cooking isn’t a bad deal either :)

Agree or disagree?

My wife brought this qoute back to my attention tonight, what do ya think?

Wow, how true of a saying is that? The power of that statment is awesome.

Think about your own life. You forget what people say, because they often say so much that is meaningless. But you do not forget how someone makes you feel. Whether good or bad, the feelings will be the first thing you think of when you think of that person.

The price of White bread

Holy Cow! I must be living under the proverbial rock! A little story….

I like to do home made garlic bread when we have spaghetti for dinner. It’s becoming a tradition, for a long time we had the different brands of toast like everyone else. For about the last 5 months or so I’ve been doing it the old fashioned way with butter, garlic powder, and a broiler. The kids love it, I love it, the wife loves it, (and she wishes it weren’t so dag gone good.) :)

Well, tonight is the night. I noticed today we didn’t have any bread. So I run down to Winn-Dixie to get a loaf of bread as not to dissapoint the fans….I don’t know if it’s where I was shopping, or if it’s just this bad….but a loaf of bread, after tax cost me $3.19! Is this CRAZY or am I just out of touch with how things really are?

Sending greeting cards to friends, lovers and family is a tradition that goes back over 200 years. While the first greeting card actually dates back to the early 1400’s, greeting cards became popular in the mid 1800’s when the cost of color printing dropped, and cards could be delivered for just a penny.

Sir Henry Cole is credited with coming up with the idea for the first mass produced greeting card, which turned out to be a Christmas card he had created by his good friend, John Calcott Horsely. That year, Cole was late sending his usual holiday greetings letters to all his friends and relatives for Christmas. He contacted Horsely to ask if he was able to hand colour and engrave a thousand cards for him with a seasonal message which could then be sent to everyone. Horsely accommodated him, and thus began the tradition of sending holiday greeting cards.

And so the first modern Christmas card was born. It depicted a young boy with a red scarf and the greeting ‘Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year’. Sir Henry was delighted with the result. He even sold the left over cards in Old Bond Street for a shilling each! With the help of the penny post, which had been introduced in England a few years earlier, the practice couldn’t help but catch on and grow.

By the 1860’s, Americans were importing most of their greeting cards from Germany, but in 1906 a gentlemen from Cleveland by the name of Jacob Sapirstein started his own greeting card business. With a $50 loan acquired at a local bank, Sapirstein began selling penny postcards greeting cards at local drug stores, and quickly became a success. After his death in 1918 his son and wife continued the business and grew it to enormous success.

As the concept of greeting cards grew, people found many occasions to send them, including holidays, birthdays, or just to say hello. The greeting card then became a fixture in American culture, and has continued to grow ever since.

In the 1980’s the greeting card market was growing by 10% per year. Small publishing houses were establishing themselves and specialist card shops, also selling giftwrap and associated gifts were springing up on nearly every high street and shopping mall.

By the 1900’s the Post Office was having to handle an extra 11.5 million letters in Christmas week alone.

Today, the greeting card business grosses over $7.5 Billion dollars per year, with literally millions of cards sent annually. All of that adds to the wonderful feelings we hold for our friends and family members and we reach out to let them know how we feel about them.

2008 Presidential Election

I’m 38 years old, in my life I’ve seen an assasination attempt on a president, caught on tape. I’ve seen a space shuttle blow up….twice. I’ve seen a president desicrate the oval office and the American people didn’t care. I went to war for my country as a U.S. Marine.

Some of my most memorable moments these are. But they will pale in comparison to Barack Obama being elected as President. I didn’t vote for him, (he’s to far to the left for me) but my kids both love him. They rooted him on all night. Now, like it or not, I’m on his team, and so are you if you’re in the states. So, we need to work together to straighten this ship. He ran on change, now Barack, let’s see change, and do it without putting several industries out of business please.

You dems have 4 years. If things aren’t better, Mit will be back!

Congrats Barack, here’s the helm, now steer this ship.

Nutrition opportunity found….

After months and months of searching, literally. I don’t say that lightly, I’ve been looking at every nutrition company coming and going since….I’d say….February.

There are a bunch of products and companies out there that looked great. But I just didn’t think the opportunity was for me. I didn’t want another “me too” juice company. I mean really, how many super fruits that only grow on the northern slope of african mountains above 8,000 feet and east of the nile can there be?

Max International has just started doing business within the last 18 months. With some of the most well known owners in the world. If you’ve watched TV, you’ve seen the work of the Max owners. Ever see a commercial for a little thing called a Total Gym? That’s one of our owners! Ever see a little thing called Pro-Active? That’s one of our owners. Given that information, you may get the impression that these guys know how to market. That’s what I got, and that’s why I joined. The company plans on meeting the $1B sales mark within 4 years. That’s a whole bunch of millions of dollars to be made between now and then. I’m gonna get me some of that! Do you want some too? I’m looking for parteners.

The group I joined specializes in internet marketing. I’m pretty knowledgable in that area myself, so having teammates with 20+ years of internet experience is only going to make my internet presence that much stronger. I’m totally stoked about this company and the product. It’s having great results in so many people, I can’t wait for mine to come in! Hopefully about Wednesday. I have some interesting things planned for the marketing of this product. I can’t wait for it to get here.
